Some 500,000 people took to the streets in the Algerian capital Algiers after Friday’s prayer to protest against Israel’s offensive in Gaza which killed more than 700 Palestinians so far.

*
The protesters condemned the Israeli crimes and called for supporting the Palestinian resistance and Gaza’s people.
*
They marched to the main avenues in the city criticising Arab governments and describing them as “betrayers.”
*
Some of them were stopped by anti-riot forces while other demonstrators continued their march in some areas in Algiers.
*
The government banned demonstrations in 2001 following bloody clashes between security forces and protestors in a demonstration organised by Berber activists.
*
In other Algerian provinces, people also demonstrated in support of Palestinians.
*
President of the International Union for Muslim Scholars Youssef El Karadaoui had urged Muslims to make Friday an international day in support of Gaza.
